Checked in is not the same as present

Presence and floor coverage monitoring for UAE warehouses and restaurants. Your attendance system records an event at a door. A-Eye tells you whether the work area was actually staffed, hour by hour, without identifying anybody.

The short answer

A clock-in is a record that somebody touched a device. It is not evidence that anyone reached the warehouse floor, and it says nothing about whether the restaurant floor had a waiter on it at eight in the evening. Presence monitoring measures the thing you actually care about: was the area staffed when it needed to be.

The problem

Attendance systems measure a door, not the work

Every clock-in method shares the same blind spot. It captures one moment at one point, then assumes everything after it.

The record stops at the entrance

A check-in proves somebody was at the reader. Whether they reached the floor, stayed there, or left twenty minutes later is simply not captured.

Coverage gaps are invisible

Payroll shows a full shift. It cannot show that a section had nobody on it for forty minutes during your busiest hour, which is when it costs you.

Nobody finds out until later

Understaffing surfaces as a bad review, a missed dispatch or a complaint. By then the shift is over and the cause is guesswork.

The gap matters most in exactly the situations where supervision is thinnest: night shifts, split sites, quiet hours and the floor of a busy restaurant where the manager is dealing with something else.

The common complaint is simple: a check-in exists, and the work area stayed empty.

Presence against the roster

Compare recorded attendance with whether the work zone was occupied during those hours. A shift logged as worked in an area that stayed empty is an exception worth a conversation.

Zone occupancy over time

See how long each area was staffed across the day, which turns “we are short handed” into something you can look at rather than argue about.

Cover on critical points

Whether goods-in, dispatch or a specific station had someone present when it needed to be, rather than only on paper.

Quiet hour verification

Night and weekend shifts, where supervision is lightest and the assumption that work happened is weakest.

In service, presence is not an HR question. It is the difference between a table being looked after and a customer deciding not to come back.

Time to first approach is usually the most useful of these. It correlates with customer satisfaction more directly than headcount does, and unlike a rota it reflects what the guest actually experienced.

The important part

Presence, not identity

This is the design decision that makes the whole approach workable, and it is worth stating before anything else.

No facial recognition

A-Eye does not perform facial recognition or biometric identification for this. It detects that a person is present in an area, not who that person is. That is consistent with how the rest of our platform works.

Areas, not individuals

The output describes a zone over time: staffed or not, for how long. It is not a per-employee record and is not designed to follow one person through a building.

Why this is a feature rather than a limitation. Presence data answers the operational question, which is whether the area was covered. Identity data answers a different question, brings significant privacy obligations, and turns a staffing tool into a surveillance one. Most of the value is in the first, and the resistance is nearly all in the second.

Some things get asked for often. Being clear about them up front saves everyone time.

Phone use detectionNot offered. Distinguishing a personal phone from a work device, a stock lookup or an order being taken is unreliable, and acting on a wrong flag would be unfair to staff. Poor coverage during a period shows up in the presence data anyway, which is the outcome that actually matters.
Productivity scoringNot offered. Time on the floor is not the same as work done, and scoring people on a proxy measure produces gaming rather than performance.
Identifying individualsNot offered. Presence is measured by area, not by person.
Audio or conversation monitoringNot offered. A-Eye is a vision system and records no audio.
Break or bathroom trackingNot offered, and we would advise against it. It damages trust for information that has no operational use.
How it works

From camera to a staffing picture

Define the areas that matter

Zones are drawn around the places where presence has operational meaning: a dispatch bay, a dining section, a goods-in door.

Detect presence continuously

Vision runs on site and records whether each zone is occupied through the day, without anyone reviewing footage.

Compare against expectation

Coverage is measured against what the shift plan intended, so the output is a difference rather than raw data somebody has to interpret.

Raise the gaps worth knowing

Extended uncovered periods in a section that should be staffed become an exception, not a line in a report nobody opens.

Compliance, and how to introduce it

Surveillance approvals are yours

Camera permissions in the UAE are processed by whoever operates the premises. We build to the requirements; the approval stays with you.

Employment decisions are yours

Anything arising from coverage data is a management matter under your own policies and local employment law. We provide an observation about an area, never a judgement about a person.

On telling your team. Introduce this as staffing measurement and it is generally accepted, because it is measuring areas rather than people. Introduce it as monitoring individuals and it will be resisted, and in this case that framing would also be inaccurate.
Questions

Presence monitoring FAQs

Can it tell us that a specific employee checked in but never came to the floor?

It can tell you the area was unoccupied during hours that attendance records say were worked. Connecting that to a named person is a management step you take with your own records. The system reports on the area, not the individual.

Does it replace our attendance system?

No, it verifies it. Your clock-in remains the record of who was rostered and paid. Presence data tells you whether the work area was actually covered during those hours.

Can it tell if a waiter is on their phone in front of a customer?

We do not offer that. It cannot be distinguished reliably from taking an order or checking stock on a device, and acting on a false flag would be unfair. What you can see is whether the section was covered and how long tables waited, which is the outcome that actually matters.

Do we need new cameras?

Usually not. A-Eye runs on existing CCTV where coverage allows. Whether current angles cover the zones you care about is assessed per site rather than assumed.

Is footage stored?

Video is processed on site as it happens and is not recorded. Reference images are kept for flagged events only, and nothing is uploaded to a cloud service.

Will this work across several branches?

Yes, and comparison across sites is usually where it becomes most useful. A coverage gap looks like bad luck at one branch and like a process problem when the same gap appears at five.

What if the data shows we are simply understaffed?

That is a common and useful outcome. Plenty of coverage gaps are rota problems rather than people problems, and knowing which one you have is the point of measuring it.
